The rectifier / regulator changes the alternating voltage generated in the alternator into the DC voltage of 12V used in the vehicle electrical system and keeps the voltage within a certain tolerance range. This charges the battery and ensures that light bulbs, for example, do not burn out. Since this component is exposed to very high temperatures, it is not uncommon for it to break. If the rectifier / regulator is defective, the battery is constantly empty, with certain ignition systems the ignition system no longer works, light bulbs burn continuously or the headlights flicker.
